A MIT researcher wired his home with 11 cameras and 14 microphones to capture every word his 1 yr old infant and caregivers spoke. He was interested in language development to program robots to learn as children do. His research finding was novel to the engineering field, but has been common knowledge to speech-language pathology researchers for years.
